Removal (With Electronic Locking Differential)

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Push electronic locking differential control switch to ON position to lock rear differential. Verify differential is locked by rotating tires. Disconnect negative battery terminal. Drain differential gear oil.
  2. Place reference marks on drive shaft companion flange and differential companion flange for reassembly reference. Remove drive shaft companion flange bolts and nuts, and separate drive shaft from differential assembly. Remove rear axle shafts. See REAR AXLE SHAFT & BEARING . Disconnect electronic locking differential electrical connectors and hose.
  3. Remove nuts, washers and differential carrier assembly. Remove and discard gasket.
