Installation (Land Cruiser (1997))
- Using brass drift and hammer, install bearing races. Pack bearings with multipurpose grease. Install inner bearing. Using seal installer, install NEW inner oil seal into rear axle hub. Install hub. Install outer bearing, lock plate and bearing lock nut.
- Tighten lock nut to 44 ft. lbs. (59 N.m). Turn hub several times to seat bearings. loosen lock nut and retighten to specified torque. Loosen nut until hub can be turned by hand. Using spring tension gauge, measure bearing preload in direction of normal wheel rotation. Required preload Turning force should be 5.7-12.8 lbs. (2.6-5.8 kg). If preload is not as specified. Adjust lock nut as necessary.
- Install 2 rear axle bearing lock nut screws. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Using Seal Installer (09517-36010), install NEW oil seal into rear axle hub. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
