Removal (Avalon, Camry & Sienna)

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Remove cotter pin, bearing lock nut cap, and bearing lock nut (apply brakes when removing lock nut). Using Puller (09628-62011), separate tie rod end from steering knuckle. See Fig 1. Remove both stabilizer bar brackets from lower control arms.
  2. Remove nuts and bolt retaining lower ball joint to lower control arm. Tap end of axle shaft with plastic mallet to remove axle from hub. Secure axle shaft out of way.
    NOTE: To remove lower ball joint with Puller (09628-62011), it may be necessary to remove steering knuckle and axle hub assembly from vehicle.
  3. Remove lower control arm retaining bolts/nuts and control arm. Remove dust deflector from steering knuckle. Using Puller (09628-62011), remove lower ball joint.
