Passenger-Side Air Bag: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Disable SRS. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect passenger-side air bag connector, accessible through glove box door finish plate. See Figure.
  2. Remove front door and pillar interior trim. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL PAD & SPIRAL CABLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove lower instrument cover, lower instrument panel pad, upper cluster finish panel, steering column covers, combination switch, and combination meter (instrument cluster).
  3. Remove lower finish panel, shift bezel, center console, ashtray, radio, and A/C control head. Remove junction block No. 1, heater duct No. 2, and clock. Remove 4 bolts and 2 nuts, retaining instrument panel, and remove instrument panel from the vehicle.
  4. Remove 2 nuts and 2 bolts retaining passenger-side air bag assembly to instrument panel support. Remove air bag assembly and air bag door.
