"2" Position Test

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 1992 Geo Prizm, 1991 Toyota MR2, 1991 Toyota Corolla, 1991 Geo Prizm, and 1990 Toyota Corolla. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Shift vehicle into "2" position. Hold accelerator pedal constantly at full throttle. On A-240E, push in one of the pattern selectors. On all transaxles, ensure 1-2 upshift speeds are within specification. Refer to appropriate table under SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS .
NOTE: To prevent overrun, transaxle will upshift into 3rd gear. See appropriate table under SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  for when approximate speed upshift occurs. In "2" position there will be no lock-up to 2nd gear.
  2. While driving vehicle in "2" position, 2nd gear, release accelerator pedal and check engine braking effect. If there is no engine braking effect, 2nd coast brake is defective. Check for abnormal noise and shock at acceleration and deceleration.
