Removal & Installation: Removal

Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove radiator. Remove all accessory drive belts. Remove power steering pump with hoses attached, and secure aside (if equipped). Remove spark plugs. Disconnect hoses from air pipe.
Remove coolant outlet and fan. Remove spark plug wire clamps across front of No. 2 timing belt cover. Remove retaining bolts, No. 3 timing belt cover and gaskets. See Fig 1.
Rotate crankshaft so cylinder No. 1 is at TDC of compression stroke. Ensure timing mark on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" mark on timing belt cover.
Ensure timing marks on camshaft sprockets align with timing marks on No. 4 timing belt cover. See Figure. If timing marks are not aligned, rotate crankshaft 360 degrees and recheck alignment.
Remove power steering belt pulley. Using Pulley Holder (09213-58011) and Handle (09330-00021), or equivalent, hold crankshaft pulley and remove retaining bolt.
Using puller, remove crankshaft pulley. Remove fan bracket, No. 1 timing belt cover and gasket. See Fig 1.
Note direction of timing belt guide installation. Mark direction of timing belt rotation. Remove timing belt guide and tension spring. See Fig 1. Loosen No. 1 idler pulley retaining bolt.
Position No. 1 idler pulley as far to the left as possible (away from timing belt), and temporarily tighten retaining bolt. Remove timing belt.
