Removal (Supra)

Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect negative battery cable, and remove hood.
Drain cooling system and engine oil. Disconnect accelerator cable, throttle valve cable (A/T) and cruise control cable. On non-turbo models, remove air cleaner case with air intake hoses attached. On turbo models, remove air cleaner pipe and hoses.
On all models, remove air cleaner cap and airflow meter with air cleaner hose attached. Remove radiator. Remove A/C compressor and power steering pump with hoses attached, and secure aside.
Remove water pump pulley and fan clutch assembly. On turbo models, remove engine mount absorber. On all models, disconnect necessary electrical connections, coolant hoses, fuel lines and vacuum hoses.
Raise and support vehicle. Remove lower engine covers. Remove front exhaust pipe, which fits between exhaust manifold or turbocharger outlet elbow and catalytic converter.
Paint mark on drive shaft flange at differential for reassembly reference. Remove retaining bolts, drive shaft and center bearing. Install Cap (SST 09325-40010 for A/T and R-154 M/T, or SST 09325-20010 for W58 M/T) in transmission to prevent oil leakage.
On M/T models, remove clutch release cylinder with hoses attached, and secure aside. Remove shift lever. On all models, disconnect electrical connections, speedometer cable and shift linkage at transmission.
Remove cross brace located below oil pan. Support transmission with floor jack. Place wooden block between firewall and rear of cylinder head to prevent damage to coolant hose.
Remove rear crossmember located below transmission. Support engine with hoist. Remove engine mount bolts. Lift engine and transmission assembly from vehicle.
