Reassembly (MR2)

  1. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease on main pin caliper bore, sliding bushings, parking brake crank, adjusting bolt, piston and all rubber parts. Install stopper pin. Ensure pin is .98" (25 mm) from caliper to underside of head.
  2. Install cable support bracket. Install parking brake crank boot and crank, ensuring metal part of boot fits snugly in cylinder. Install spring, and ensure crank touches stopper pin. Ensure needle rollers do not catch on caliper hole. Ensure clearance exists between cable support bracket and upper side of crank. Use cable support bracket mount bolt to adjust clearance.
  3. Install NEW "O" ring on adjusting bolt. Assemble adjusting bolt with stopper, spring plate, spring, spring retainer and strut. Using spring compressor, tighten component parts of adjusting bolt assembly. Ensure inscribed surface of stopper faces up and notches of spring retainer align with notches on stopper.
  4. Install adjusting bolt assembly in cylinder bore. Install snap ring with opening toward bleeder side of caliper. Remove spring compressor. Move parking brake crank by hand. Ensure adjusting bolt moves smoothly. Install piston seal in cylinder bore.
  5. Using piston spanner, slowly turn piston clockwise into caliper until it bottoms. Ensure seal does not fold under piston. Align piston stopper groove with protrusion in cylinder. Install dust boot and set ring into caliper.
  6. Using 19-mm socket, install NEW main pin boot into caliper ensuring metal part of boot fits snugly in cylinder. Install sliding bushing, with flange facing inside, and dust boot into caliper.
