Disassembly (MR2)

  1. Remove sliding bushings and dust boots. See Fig 1. Remove main pin boot. Using a screwdriver, remove cylinder boot retaining set ring and dust boot. Remove piston from bore by turning it counterclockwise using Piston Spanner (09719-14020). Remove piston seal from cylinder bore.
  2. Using Spring Compressor (09756-00010) over adjusting bolt, gently tighten spring using 14-mm socket. Remove snap ring from cylinder bore. Remove spring compressor.
CAUTION: Always use Spring Compressor (09756-00010) when removing snap ring to prevent accidental spring disengagement. DO NOT overtighten compressor, as spring retainer could be damaged.
  3. Remove parking brake strut, spring retainer, spring, spring plate and stopper with adjusting bolt connected. DO NOT use excessive force to pry out adjusting bolt. Ensure "O" ring on adjusting bolt is not damaged. Disassemble adjusting bolt by removing retainer, spring, spring plate and stopper. Remove "O" ring from adjusting bolt.
  4. Remove cable support bracket. Remove spring from parking brake crank. Remove parking brake crank from caliper. Turn crank so it will not catch on stop pin. If crank boot is to be replaced, remove it. DO NOT disassemble crank any further. Remove cable support bracket. Tap out stopper pin using punch.
