Wiring Harness Operational Test

Unplug connector at fuel tank sending unit. Turn ignition on. Fuel gauge should be on EMPTY. If fuel gauge is not on EMPTY, repair short circuit in wiring harness.
If fuel gauge is on EMPTY, connect a 12-volt, 3.4-watt test light between appropriate terminals of harness connector. See FUEL SENDING UNIT HARNESS CONNECTOR table. See Fig 1.
With ignition on, test light should flash and gauge needle should move toward FULL. If test light does not flash and needle does not move, check wiring harness for open circuit. Repair or replace as necessary.

⁽¹⁾	Sedan and station wagon models not equipped with tachometer. When measuring sending unit resistance, connect ohmmeter between terminals No. 1 and 2.

⁽²⁾	When measuring sending unit resistance, connect ohmmeter between Red cable and Black cable.

⁽³⁾	Sedan and station wagon equipped with tachometer and all coupe models.

⁽⁴⁾	When measuring sending unit resistance, connect ohmmeter between terminals No. 1 and 3.

⁽⁵⁾	When measuring sending unit resistance, connect ohmmeter between terminals No. 1 and 2.
