Ball Joint Checking

  1. Check turning torque of upper ball joint with ball joint removed from vehicle. Flip ball joint stud back and forth 5 times. Install stud nut. Using an INCH lb. torque wrench, check ball joint turning torque.
  2. Turn ball joint stud nut one turn every 2-4 seconds and take torque reading on the fifth turn. Ball joint torque should be 9.0-30.0 INCH lbs. (1.0-3.4 N.m). Replace ball joint if not within specification.
