Wheel Bearing & Axle Carrier: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Remove brake caliper and wire out of way. Remove brake disc rotor.
  2. Remove rear drive shaft and parking brake assembly. Disconnect No. 1 (front) and 2 (rear) lower suspension arms from axle carrier. See Fig 1.

  3. Disconnect strut rod. Disconnect bottom of strut assembly. Disconnect upper suspension arm from frame and remove axle carrier assembly with upper arm. Separate upper suspension arm from axle carrier.
  4. Using a screwdriver, remove deflector and inner oil seal from axle carrier.
  5. Remove axle hub using Hub Puller (09950-20017). Remove backing plate from axle carrier. Remove inner bearing race from axle hub using Hub Puller (09950-20017). Remove outer oil seal with a screwdriver and remove snap ring.
  6. Remove bearing from axle carrier using Bearing Driver (09608-35014).
