Valve Springs Service

  1. Remove camshafts as previously outlined. Remove valve lifters and shims. Keep lifters and shims in order for reassembly reference. Using Valve Spring Compressor (09202-70010), remove valve springs. Keep all components in order for reassembly reference. Remove valve stem oil seals.
  2. Using steel square, measure squareness of valve springs. Replace spring if squareness limit is exceeded. Measure free length of valve springs. If free length is not within specification replace valve spring.
  3. Using spring tester, check tension of each valve spring at specified installed height. If valve spring tension is not within specification replace spring. See VALVES & VALVE SPRINGS SPECIFICATIONS  table.
