Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. Clean all surfaces. Apply sealant to front of cylinder block. See Fig 1. Install new head gasket. Ensure gasket is properly installed. Carefully lower cylinder head into position over dowels. Connect coolant by-pass hose to the union.

  2. Apply light coat of oil to threads and underside of cylinder head bolts. Using 10 mm Hex Adapter (09043-38100), tighten cylinder head bolts in 3 stages in tightening sequence. See Figure and TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table. Install timing belt. See TIMING BELT . Install spark plugs.
  3. Using Clamp Adapter (09923-00010), install heater hose clamp and No. 3 valve cover (cover between camshafts). Apply sealant to cylinder head as shown. See Fig 2. Install valve covers. Install accelerator link.

  4. Install new coolant outlet housing gasket. Install coolant outlet housing. Connect No. 6 coolant by-pass hose. Install new gaskets, union and union bolt to coolant outlet housing. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
