Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal
- Remove timing belt and camshaft pulleys. See TIMING BELT . Remove air intake chamber. Remove all other hoses, vacuum lines and components as necessary to access cylinder head covers.
- Remove No. 1 and No. 2 cylinder head covers. Remove No. 2 engine bracket. Remove heater pipe union, gaskets and pipe. Remove EGR cooler. Loosen bearing cap bolts in 3 steps in reverse order of tightening sequence. See Figure.
- Remove bearing caps, oil seal and camshaft. Keep bearing caps in order for reassembly reference. DO NOT disturb shim placement on cam followers.
NOTE:
Camshaft rides directly on cylinder head bearing surfaces and caps. There are no replaceable camshaft bearings in head.
