Propeller Shaft: Inspection

  1. Inspect rear propeller shaft for damage and runout. If shaft runout is greater than maximum, replace the shaft. Maximum runout is 0.031" (0.8 mm). See Fig 1.

  2. Inspect spider bearings for wear and damage and axial play. See Fig 2.Check spider bearing axial play by turning the yoke while holding the shaft lightly. Bearing axial play should be less than 0.0020" (0.05 mm).

  3. Inspect the shaft for wear or damage.Inspect the double Carden joint for wear or damage. If any problem is found, replace the front propeller shaft assembly. See Fig 3.
