Removal (Land Cruiser, 4WD Pickup/4Runner)

  1. Using flare wrench, disconnect brake line at brake caliper and remove caliper assembly. If equipped with free wheel hub, set control cover handle to "FREE" position. Remove cover bolts. Using snap ring pliers, remove snap ring from axle shaft.
  2. Remove conical washers and pull hub from axle shaft. If equipped with flange, remove grease cap, bolts and snap ring. Install 2 bolts in threaded flange holes and turn bolts equally to remove axle flange.
  3. Using screwdriver, open tabs on lock plate. Using spindle socket, remove outer lock nut. Remove lock plate and bearing adjusting nut. Remove outer bearing and thrust washer.
  4. Remove axle hub with disc. Pry out oil seal and remove inner wheel bearing. Using brass bar, drive bearing races from hub and replace if necessary.
