Land Cruiser, Pickup/4Runner

  1. For testing purposes, specified weight, which includes vehicle weight, is placed on the rear axle for testing and adjusting pressures. See LSP & BV TEST WEIGHT table.
    LSP & BV TEST WEIGHT

    Application Lbs. (Kg.)
    Land Cruiser 2646 (1200)
    Pickup/4Runner
    2WD
    1/2 Ton 1764 (800)
    1 Ton 1543 (700)
    1 Ton (Extra Long) 2050 (930)
    4WD 1984 (900)
  2. Attach Pressure Gauge Set (09709-29017) front caliper and rear caliper/wheel cylinder. Bleed system. Depress brake pedal until front pressure reading reaches 711 psi (50 kg/cm2 ). DO NOT depress brake pedal more than once or release pedal while setting pressure on front gauge.
  3. Wait 2 seconds and record pressure reading from rear gauge. Raise pressure on front gauge to 1422 psi (100 kg/cm2 ) and record pressure reading from rear gauge after 2 seconds. Compare recorded pressures with specified rear brake pressures. See BRAKE PRESSURES table.
    BRAKE PRESSURES

Application Front Gauge psi (kg/cm2 ) Rear Gauge psi (kg/cm2 )

    Pickup/4Runner
    2WD
    1/2-Ton
    1st Reading 711 (50) 413-555 (29-39)
    2nd Reading 1422 (100) 526-726 (37-51)
    1-Ton/C & C
    1st Reading 711 (50) 455-597 (32-42)
    2nd Reading 1422 (100) 696-896 (49-63)
    4WD
    1st Reading 711 (50) 384-526 (27-37)
    2nd Reading 1422 (100) 540-740 (38-52)
  4. Adjust fluid pressure by changing length of No. 2 shackle (if necessary). See Fig 1. If rear pressure readings are low, distance "A" must be increased. For high pressure readings, distance "A" must be decreased. Turn No. 2 shackle 360 degrees for pressure change of 8.5 psi (.6 kg/cm2 ).

  5. Repeat pressure tests after adjusting shackle length. If rear pressures fail specification after adjustment, reposition valve body. Raise valve body if rear pressures are too high, lower valve body if rear pressures are too low.
  6. Adjust No. 2 shackle to standard length. Adjusting range for 4WD Pickup/4Runner is 4.49-4.96" (114-126 mm), 4.72" (120 mm) preferred. Adjusting range for all other models is 2.83-3.31" (72-84 mm), 307" (78 mm) preferred.
  7. If pressures cannot be adjusted, check valve housing. Position valve body in uppermost position. Apply brakes and record rear brake pressures. See VALVE BODY ADJUSTMENT table for specified range. If measured value does not meet specification, replace valve assembly.
