Timing Chain TENSIONER & Damper
- Inspect surfaces of tensioner plunger and bore of tensioner body. To test clearance, lubricate plunger and insert into plunger body. Cover oil passages with fingers and pull plunger out about halfway. Vacuum strong enough to return plunger should be felt.
- Measure thickness of tensioner head and chain damper. Tensioner head should be a minimum of .49" (12.5 mm) thick. Chain damper should be a minimum of .20" (5.0 mm) thick. SeeFigure and Figure .
