Hydraulic Valve Lifters

  1. Using a leak-down tester, apply 44 lbs. (20 kg) of pressure to plunger. Measure leak-down time. Leak-down time should be 7-50 seconds for .04" (1 mm), after sliding down about .08" (2 mm), at a temperature of 68°F (20°C).
  2. Check clearance between valve lifter and bore in crankcase. If clearance exceeds .004" (.1 mm), replace lifter.
