Cylinder Head: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove right seat. Remove engine service cover. Drain coolant and disconnect all coolant hoses. Drain oil pan. Remove power steering pump (if equipped).
- Remove exhaust pipe and bracket. Disconnect accelerator cable with bracket from throttle body. Remove air cleaner and hoses.
- Disconnect electrical connectors from coolant temperature sensor, start injector time switch, cold start injector, air valve, throttle position sensor, and oxygen sensor. Remove A/C coolant temperature switch (if equipped). See Fig 1.

- Disconnect hoses from radiator inlet, radiator breather, coolant reserve tank, heater outlet, PCV valve, and coolant by-pass. See Fig 2.

- Label and disconnect emission control hoses and vacuum lines from brake booster and charcoal canister. Remove fuel injection throttle body. Remove 2 nuts attaching air intake chamber to EGR valve. Remove union nut attaching EGR valve to exhaust manifold. Remove EGR valve.
- Disconnect start injector pipe and pressure regulator hose. Remove air intake chamber brackets. Remove air intake chamber with air valve. Remove wire clamp bolt at injector tube. Remove injector wire connections.
- Remove exhaust manifold bracket. Remove heater pipe bracket. Remove fuel inlet union bolt from fuel filter. Remove fuel outlet hose. Remove intake and exhaust manifold.
- Remove spark plugs and spark plug tubes. Remove valve cover. Remove rocker arm assembly. Remove push rods. Loosen head bolts in sequence, in 3 stages. See Fig 3.

- Remove cylinder head. Remove lifters from engine block. Keep lifters in correct order for reassembly reference.
