Parking Brake Adjustments: Notes

  1. If parking brake applies brake shoes to drum or inside of rotor, clearance between brake shoes and braking surface must be correct BEFORE parking brake is adjusted. Usually clearance will only change if parts have been replaced. Wheels should be locked with parking brake applied and rotate freely when parking brake is released.
  2. Pull on parking brake lever with weight of 44 lbs. (20 kg) to check parking brake adjustment. Count number of notches (clicks) until parking brake is fully applied. Compare actual count to specification in PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT table. Adjust parking brake only if travel is incorrect.
