Installation (MR2)

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. If removed, install timing belt idler pulley (tensioner) and spring. Secure pulley as far to the left as possible and temporarily tighten bolt.
  2. Install timing belt. If reusing old belt, ensure mating marks made on disassembly match crankshaft and camshaft marks. Ensure arrow points in direction of rotation.
  3. Loosen tensioner pulley bolt allowing tensioner to apply tension to belt. Temporarily install crankshaft pulley. Turn crankshaft CLOCKWISE 2 revolutions. Align camshaft and crankshaft timing marks. See Figure. If timing marks align, tighten tensioner pulley bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove crankshaft pulley.
  4. Measure timing belt deflection midway between camshaft sprockets. See Figure. If deflection is not correct, readjust timing belt tension.
  5. Install timing belt guide on crankshaft. Install timing belt covers. Install crankshaft pulley. Install and tighten center bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Install engine mount to timing belt end of engine. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install right front wheel and engine under cover.
  7. Install water pump pulley. Install accessory drive belts. Adjust drive belts to proper tension.
