Axle Hub, Carrier & Shaft: Installation

  1. Place axle carrier in mounting position. Install nuts and bolts holding axle carrier to shock absorber. On Camry only, tighten nuts to 119 ft. lbs. (162 N.m). On all other models, tighten nuts to 105 ft. lbs. (142 N.m). Install but DO NOT tighten nuts and bolts to front and rear suspension arm (install lip of nut into hole on suspension arm).
  2. Install but DO NOT tighten nut and bolt holding axle carrier to strut rod (insert lip of nut into groove on bracket). Install new "O" ring to axle carrier.
  3. Install axle hub assembly and tighten bolts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 N.m). Install brake drum and hub assembly. See ADJUSTMENTS. Install cotter pin and grease cap.
  4. Connect brake tube to wheel cylinder. Bleed brake system. Lower vehicle to ground and bounce to stabilize suspension. With weight of vehicle on suspension, tighten axle carrier mounting bolts. Check rear wheel alignment.
