Valve Springs: Inspection

  1. Using steel square, check squareness of valve springs. Spring must be .098" (2.5 mm) or less out-of-square. Check free length of springs. Replace any not within limits.
  2. Using spring tester, check tension of each spring at specified installed height. Valve spring installed height is 1.36" (34.7 mm). Minimum installed tension is 32.2 lbs. (14.6 kg). Replace spring if not to specification.
