Piston & Rod Assembly: Installation
- Install rings with code marks up. Ensure ring gaps are set 180° apart and are not on thrust side of piston or in line with pin. See Figure. Apply oil to rings, piston and bore. Install piston and rod assembly. Ensure bearing inserts are properly seated.
- Install ring compressor. Install piston/rod assembly with cavity on piston top aligned with protrusion of rod and facing toward front of engine. See Figure. With piston installed, ensure rod and bearings are seated against crankshaft journal.
- Ensure rod and cap marks align. Tighten caps to specification. Install cylinder head. Install new gasket and oil pan. Tighten pan bolts evenly, in a criss-cross pattern. DO NOT overtighten. Complete installation by reversing removal procedure.
