Adjusting Valve Clearance

  1. To remove adjusting shim, valve lifter must be depressed using Lifter Depressor (09248-70011). Before pressing down on the lifter, position the notch toward spark plug. Use small screwdriver to remove shim from top of lifter.
  2. Using micrometer, measure thickness of shim removed. If valve clearance is larger than specified, use thicker shim. If clearance is less than specified, use thinner shim. Adjusting shims are available in .002" (.050 mm) increments from .0984" (2.500) to .1299" (3.300 mm).
  3. To replace shims, use lifter depressor to depress lifters and slip shims into place.
