Installation (Camry & Celica)
- Install crankshaft timing sprocket over crankshaft key. Install No. 2 idler pulley. Align marks and install timing belt on sprocket. Install belt guide with cup side outward. Install No. 1 timing belt cover with new gaskets.
- Install crankshaft pulley. Secure crankshaft and tighten mount bolt. Pull timing belt upward and align mark on No. 1 timing belt cover with crankshaft sprocket groove. See Fig 1.
- Install No. 1 idler pulley and tension spring. Pry pulley left far as possible and tighten. Align camshaft lock pin with camshaft timing sprocket during installation. Using Camshaft Sprocket Holder (09278-54011), install sprocket mount bolt.
- Align camshaft oil seal retainer mark with center of small hole on camshaft timing sprocket. Install timing belt. Ensure timing belt marks align with timing sprocket marks and belt direction arrow follows engine rotation. See Fig 1.

- Loosen No. 1 idler pulley mount bolt 1/2 turn. Turn crankshaft clockwise approximately 90 degrees and set No. 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke. Tighten No. 1 idler pulley mount bolt. Ensure there is proper belt tension. See Fig 2.

- Turn crankshaft 2 revolutions clockwise from TDC to TDC. Check valve timing. Ensure sprocket marks align. See Fig 1 and Fig 2
