Removal (Camry & Celica)
- With engine upper front cover removed, install Camshaft Sprocket Holder (09278-54011). Hold sprocket and remove mount bolt and sprocket. With valve cover removed, remove rocker arms and lash adjusters.
- Before camshaft removal, check camshaft end play. Standard end play is .0031-.0091" (.080-.230 mm). Maximum end play is .0138" (.350 mm). If clearance is greater than maximum specification, replace camshaft and/or housing.
- Remove oil seal retainer mount bolts. Remove oil seal retainer and "O" ring. Turn and slowly remove camshaft without damaging camshaft housing bearing surfaces. Remove camshaft housing as described in cylinder head removal procedure.
