Oil Pump: Inspection

  1. Using feeler gauge, measure clearance between driven rotor and pump body. Standard clearance is .004-.007" (.10-.17 mm). Maximum clearance is .008" (.20 mm). If clearance is greater than specification, replace oil pump rotor set and/or the pump body. See Fig 1.
  2. Measure clearance between both rotor tips. Standard clearance is .0016-.0063" (.040-.160 mm). Maximum clearance is .008" (.20 mm). If clearance is greater than maximum, replace oil pump rotor set. See Fig 1.

  3. Inspect relief valve components for wear or damage. Ensure relief valve operating pressure is within limits. Standard pressure is 51-63 psi (3.6-4.4 kg/cm2 ). Replace oil seal if worn or damaged.
