Rear Brake Shoes: Installation
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Install parking brake lever and adjuster lever to rear shoe with new "C" washers. When installing new brake shoes, coat wheel cylinder cups with rubber grease and apply non-melting grease to sliding areas of backing plate and automatic adjuster.
- After installation of brake assembly, move adjuster back and forth to ensure adjusting bolt moves. If not, check installation of brake assembly. Bleed hydraulic system.
Position brake shoes over wheel cylinders with front return spring hooked on inner side of shoe. Install hold-down springs. Connect return spring and tensioner spring. Adjust and bleed brakes.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjuster mechanisms are not interchangeable. Right wheel has left-hand threads; left wheel, right-hand threads.
- After installation of brake assembly, pull adjusting cable backward and release, adjusting bolt should move. If not, check installation of brake assembly. Install drum and adjust brakes.
- Install adjusting lever and parking brake lever to rear shoe with NEW "C" washer. Measure clearance between lever and shoe.
- Remove "C" washer and install correct shim(s) which will give clearance of 0-.014" (0-.35 mm). Install and stake "C" washer. Ensure that lever moves.
- Complete installation by reversing removal procedure. Adjuster mechanisms are not interchangeable. Left-hand thread is for right wheel and right-hand thread is for left wheel. Install drum and bleed hydraulic system.
