Front Wheel Bearing & Oil Seal: Installation
- Pack front hub bearings and hub with multipurpose grease. Use bearing driver to install new races in hub. Place inside bearing inner race in hub. Drive oil seal into hub. Lightly coat lips of seal with grease.
- Install axle hub on spindle. Install outer bearing and thrust washer. Tighten adjusting nut to 43 ft. lbs. (58 N.m). Rotate hub several times in each direction. Loosen adjusting nut until hand tight. Retighten adjusting nut to 35-60 INCH Lbs. (4-7 N.m).
- Check starting preload with spring scale. If preload is within range of 6.2-12.6 lbs. (2.8-5.7 kg), install lock plate and lock nut. Tighten lock nut to 58-72 ft. lbs. (79-98 N.m) and secure by bending 2 tabs of lock plate, 1 inward and 1 outward.
- Place gasket on hub. Install flange or free wheel hub. Install 6 cone washers and nuts. Tighten nuts evenly to 23 ft. lbs. (31 N.m). Install bolt in axle shaft to pull shaft out of hub far enough to install snap ring.
- Install dust cap or free wheel hub cover. Install brake caliper to steering knuckle and torque bolts to 65 ft. lbs. (88 N.m). Connect brake tube to brake caliper. Bleed brake system and install wheel.
