Brake Pedal Free Play

  1. Pedal free play is distance which pedal travels before initial resistance of power assist servo air valve is contacted by push rod. To check pedal free play, stop engine. Depress brake pedal several times to exhaust vacuum from power assist servo. Place straightedge next to brake pedal.
  2. Depress pedal lightly until initial resistance is felt. See Fig 1. Free play for Van models should be .04-.14" (1-3.5 mm). Free play should be .12-.24" (3-6 mm) for all other models. If free play is incorrect, adjust by turning push rod. Start engine and confirm that free play exists. Check brake pedal height if free play has been adjusted.
