Celica, Cressida, Land Cruiser, 86 1/2 Supra & Van

  1. Unplug connector from sending unit. Connect a 3.4 watt bulb in-line with sending unit lead and ground. Turn ignition switch on. Bulb should start flashing and gauge pointer should deflect.
  2. On Land Cruiser only, resistance between gauge terminals should be about 55 ohms. On Celica, 86 1/2 Supra and Van resistance between gauge terminals should be about 42 ohms. On all models, replace gauge if defective.
  3. To check sending unit, unplug connector from sending unit. Connect 12 volt source to sending unit in series with a 3.4 watt bulb. Bulb should not light with engine is stopped, and flash with engine running. Number of flashes should vary with engine speed.
