Pinion Seal Replacement (On-Vehicle): Removal

  1. Place reference marks on drive shaft and drive pinion flange. Set parking brake. Disconnect drive shaft. Loosen staked portion of pinion shaft nut. Install Spanner Wrench (09330-00021) on pinion flange and remove nut. Using Puller (09557-22022), remove pinion flange. See Figure. Remove oil seal. On Cressida and Tercel, remove oil slinger. Remove front bearing. Remove collapsible spacer.
NOTE: Toyota recommends installing new collapsible spacer whenever oil seal is replaced.
