Pinion Seal Replacement (On-Vehicle): Installation
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Apply grease to seal lip and install to proper depth. See PINION SEAL DEPTH table. Apply grease to seal lip. Install pinion flange. Install new nut after lightly greasing threads. Check and adjust pinion preload. See PINION BEARING PRELOAD and TOTAL PRELOAD SPECIFICATIONS tables in this article.
- If preload is insufficient, gradually tighten nut in increments of 5-10 degrees, until preload is obtained. If preload is exceeded, replace bearing spacer. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Add lubricant as required.
