Actuator Circuit (Camry, Cressida, Mr2, Non-Turbo Pickup, 4Runner & Tercel)

  1. On Cressida and MR2, check vacuum pump operation. Replace vacuum pump if necessary. On all models, check actuator operation. Replace actuator if necessary. If actuator is operating properly, replace cruise control computer. Check operation of stop light switch. Replace stop light switch if necessary.
  2. If all components are operating properly in step 1), unplug electrical connector from cruise control computer. On Cressida, check resistance value between harness connector terminal No. 1 and good body ground. If resistance value is not about 80 ohms, check for open or short circuit in wire between terminal No. 1 of computer and terminal No. 1 of vacuum pump. If resistance value is about 80 ohms, go to next step.
  3. On all models, unplug electrical connector from actuator. Check for continuity between harness connector terminal No. 2 and good body ground. If continuity is present, check for short circuit in wire between terminal No. 2 of computer and terminal No. 3 (terminal No. 1 on Tercel) of actuator.
  4. On Camry, also check for short circuit in wire between terminal No. 4 of computer and terminal No. 2 of actuator. Also check for short in wire between terminal No. 14 of computer and terminal No. 1 of actuator.
  5. On all models, if continuity is not present in step 3), check resistance value between computer harness connector terminals No. 2 and No. 14 with brake pedal released. If resistance value is not about 68 ohms, check for open circuit in wire between terminal No. 14 of computer and terminal No. 1 (terminal No. 3 on Tercel) of actuator.
  6. Also check for open circuit in wire between terminal No. 2 of computer and terminal No. 3 (terminal No. 1 on Tercel) of actuator. If resistance value is about 68 ohms, check resistance value between computer harness connector terminals No. 4 and No. 14. If resistance value is not about 30 ohms, check for open circuit in wire between terminal No. 4 of computer and terminal No. 2 of actuator.
  7. If resistance value is about 30 ohms on all models except MR2, replace cruise control computer. On MR2, check for continuity between computer harness connector terminal No. 1 and good body ground. If continuity is not present, check for open circuit in wire between terminal No. 1 of computer and terminal No. 1 of vacuum pump.
  8. If continuity is present, unplug electrical connector from vacuum pump. Check for continuity between vacuum pump harness connector terminal No. 1 and good body ground.
  9. If continuity is present, check for open circuit in wire between terminal No. 1 of computer and terminal No. 1 of vacuum pump. If continuity is not present, replace cruise control computer.
