1.5L 4-CYL - VIN [A] & 1.6L 4-CYL SOHC - VIN [A]: Overhaul: Crankshaft: Installation
- Install main bearing inserts in block. Ensure bearings are on correct journal. Upper and lower bearing inserts have oil holes. Check that insert oil holes are in proper alignment with block and bearing cap oil holes.
- Apply oil to main bearing surfaces. Install upper thrust washers on center bearing and lower thrust washers on No. 3 main bearing cap with oil grooves facing out. Install crankshaft. Install bearing caps with arrows facing front of engine.
- Shift crankshaft toward front of engine. Tighten bearing caps in 2 or 3 stages, starting at center bearing and working outward. Ensure crankshaft rotates smoothly. See Fig 1.
NOTE: Loosen the main bearing cap bolts in reverse order.
- Check end play using dial indicator with pointer set on crankshaft sprocket mount. Standard thrust washer thickness is .0961-.0980" (2.440-2.490 mm). End play must be .012" (.30 mm) or less. If beyond limits, replace thrust washers as a set.
- Install rear oil seal retainer. Install flywheel or drive plate. Install piston and rod assemblies. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
