1.5L 4-CYL - VIN [A] & 1.6L 4-CYL SOHC - VIN [A]: Overhaul: Crankshaft: Inspection

  1. Check crankshaft journals and crankpins for scoring, wear, cracks, taper and out-of-round. Maximum taper and out-of-round limit is .0008" (.020 mm). If beyond limits, replace crankshaft.
  2. Check crankshaft for bend by placing on "V" blocks. Use dial indicator at center journal. Maximum limit is .0024" (.060 mm) or less for 3A-C and .0012" (.030 mm) or less for 4A-C and 4A-LC. If beyond limits, replace crankshaft.
    NOTE: The pilot bearing in the crankshaft rear opening is permanently lubricated and requires no cleaning or lubrication.
  3. Inspect crankshaft rear end pilot bearing. If damaged or excessively worn, replace pilot bearing using Bearing Remover (09303-35011) and Bearing Installer (09304-30012).
  4. Check flywheel friction surface for cracks, damage or wear. Measure runout using dial indicator. Runout limit is .008" (.02 mm). Resurface or replace if beyond limits. Check tooth surfaces of ring gear for flaws or wear. Replace as necessary.
NOTE: Main bearing caps are numbered and must be installed with arrows facing forward.
