Description & Operation: Gauges

All models have a cluster which includes a speedometer, temperature gauge and fuel gauge. The fuel gauge may also have a low fuel warning light. Some models are equipped with a tachometer, oil pressure gauge and voltmeter. A low brake fluid warning light is used on most models.

Gauges may be either the 2-terminal, bi-metallic type or 3-terminal, coil type. The 2-terminal type gauges are generally used on models without tachometers. Van models use a 3-terminal fuel gauge whether or not a tachometer is used. Testing procedures for the 2 types vary slightly. All sending units for gauges are the variable resistance type.
