Removal & Installation: Valves

  1. Using gasket scraper, chip carbon from valve head. Using wire brush, clean valve thoroughly. Inspect valves for worn, damaged or deformed head or stem.
  2. Check valve head in-margin thickness. If head is worn to .02" (.5 mm) in-margin thickness for intake or .04" (1 mm) for exhaust, replace valve. Check surface of valve stem tip for excessive wear.
  3. Standard valve length is 4.208" (106.88 mm) for intake and 4.204" (106.78 mm) for exhaust. Valve stem end surface grinding limit is .02" (.5 mm). If valve stem tip is worn, resurface with grinder or replace valve.
