Main Bearing Clearance
- Check bearings for scoring or wear. Replace if damaged. Clean oil from crankshaft. Check bearing clearance using Plastigage method. Maximum main bearing clearance is .0031" (.080 mm).
- If beyond limit, replace main bearing inserts with ones having same number as marked on cylinder block. There are three sizes of standard main bearings, marked 1, 2 and 3 accordingly.
NOTE:
Plastigage should run parallel with crankshaft. DO NOT
block oil hole or turn crankshaft with Plastigage inserted.
