Main Bearing Clearance

  1. Check bearings for scoring or wear. Replace if damaged. Clean oil from crankshaft. Check bearing clearance using Plastigage method. Maximum main bearing clearance is .0031" (.080 mm).
  2. If beyond limit, replace main bearing inserts with ones having same number as marked on cylinder block. There are three sizes of standard main bearings, marked 1, 2 and 3 accordingly.
NOTE: Plastigage should run parallel with crankshaft. DO NOT  block oil hole or turn crankshaft with Plastigage inserted.
