Valve Guide Servicing

  1. Measure clearance between valve stem and guide bushing. If clearance exceeds 0.002" (intake) or 0.003" (exhaust), replace bushing.
  2. To replace valve guide bushing, heat cylinder head to 176-212°F and position brass rod above guide bushing snap ring. Strike to break off bushing at snap ring portion.

NOTE: If tool 09201-60010 is used instead of the proper Tool 09201-41010, bushing will be damaged. It is important, therefore, to use correct tool.
  1. 4) Ream bushing to achieve clearance on intake valves of 0.0006 - 0.0018". Exhaust valve stem clearance should be 0.0010 - 0.0024". Guide bore finished measurements should be 0.315 - 0.316".
