Trailer Hitch - Rear Energy Absorber - Retrofit: Retrofit
- Record the complete part number on the trailer hitch.
- Position the trailer hitch assembly onto the vehicle, and then install the nuts that attach the hitch assembly to the body.
60 Nm (44.2 lbs-ft)
- 15 mm deep socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 3 in extension
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended: Pocket screwdriver
- Attach the clip of the LH body harness to the trailer hitch assembly.
- Connect the grey connector of the LH body harness to the trailer hitch ECU.
- Connect the black connector of the LH body harness to the trailer hitch jumper harness.
- Install the rear fascia assembly. See Fascia Assembly - Rear - Remove And Install
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See TOOLBOX 3 - CONNECT AND DISCONNECT
- Select the Dashboards tab, and then select the Infotainment Dashboard and Vehicle Configuration.
- Select Read Config, and then click RUN to load the configuration values.
- Scroll down to "towPackage" parameter and select the appropriate configuraton value from the drop-down menu, according to the part number of the trailer hitch recorded earlier.
- Part number 1027581-**-H and earlier - From the drop down menu, select Tesla Rev 1
- Part number 1027581-**-J and later - From the drop down menu, select Tesla Rev 2
- Part number 1027583-**-H and earlier - From the drop down menu, select Tesla Rev 1
- Part number 1027583-**-J and later - From the drop down menu, select Tesla Rev 2
- Select Apply Changes, and then click RUN to save the updated configuration.
- Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle. See TOOLBOX 3 - CONNECT AND DISCONNECT .
- Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode (Enable And Disable) .
- Reinstall the vehicle software through the touchscreen:
- Touch Controls > Service Mode > Software Reinstall and then touch Request.NOTE: Click X at the top left of the window to close once confirmed.
- Touch the clock on the top center of the touchscreen, or touch the Software > SOFTWARE UPDATE, and then touch INSTALL NOW to start the firmware reinstallation.NOTE: Check the touchscreen and ensure that the firmware package is installing.
- Once the firmware reinstall is completed, verify on the touchscreen that the "Release Notes" are present.NOTE: If the vehicle firmware reinstallation failed, an error message will be displayed.
- Touch Controls > Service Mode > Software Reinstall and then touch Request.
- Disable Service Mode. See Service Mode (Enable And Disable) .
