Trailer Hitch - Rear Energy Absorber - Retrofit: Retrofit

  1. Record the complete part number on the trailer hitch.
  2. Position the trailer hitch assembly onto the vehicle, and then install the nuts that attach the hitch assembly to the body.

    60 Nm (44.2 lbs-ft) 

      Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended: Pocket screwdriver

    • 15 mm deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension

  3. Attach the clip of the LH body harness to the trailer hitch assembly.

  4. Connect the grey connector of the LH body harness to the trailer hitch ECU.

  5. Connect the black connector of the LH body harness to the trailer hitch jumper harness.

  6. Install the rear fascia assembly. See Fascia Assembly - Rear - Remove And Install
  7. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See TOOLBOX 3 - CONNECT AND DISCONNECT
  8. Select the Dashboards tab, and then select the Infotainment Dashboard and Vehicle Configuration.
  9. Select Read Config, and then click RUN to load the configuration values.
  10. Scroll down to "towPackage" parameter and select the appropriate configuraton value from the drop-down menu, according to the part number of the trailer hitch recorded earlier.
    • Part number 1027581-**-H and earlier - From the drop down menu, select Tesla Rev 1
    • Part number 1027581-**-J and later - From the drop down menu, select Tesla Rev 2
    • Part number 1027583-**-H and earlier - From the drop down menu, select Tesla Rev 1
    • Part number 1027583-**-J and later - From the drop down menu, select Tesla Rev 2
  11. Select Apply Changes, and then click RUN to save the updated configuration.
  12. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle. See TOOLBOX 3 - CONNECT AND DISCONNECT .
  13. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode (Enable And Disable) .
  14. Reinstall the vehicle software through the touchscreen:
    1. Touch Controls > Service Mode > Software Reinstall and then touch Request.
      NOTE: Click X at the top left of the window to close once confirmed.
    2. Touch the clock on the top center of the touchscreen, or touch the Software > SOFTWARE UPDATE, and then touch INSTALL NOW to start the firmware reinstallation.
      NOTE: Check the touchscreen and ensure that the firmware package is installing.
    3. Once the firmware reinstall is completed, verify on the touchscreen that the "Release Notes" are present.
      NOTE: If the vehicle firmware reinstallation failed, an error message will be displayed.
  15. Disable Service Mode. See Service Mode (Enable And Disable) .
