SERVICE INFORMATION

Campaign Bulletin: This campaign bulletin addresses a non-safety-related condition and provides recommended technical diagnosis and repair procedures. Apply this procedure to the applicable vehicles.

CONDITION

Certain Model X vehicles may have a split in the sheet metal on the LH and/or RH rear quarter inner panel(s). This condition, if present, is cosmetic in nature and does not impact the structural integrity, functionality, or safety of the vehicle.

CORRECTION

Inspect the vehicle for the symptom related to the condition. If the symptom is present, modify the rear quarter inner panel(s) with relief holes.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the LH and RH upper C-pillar trims (refer to BRACKET - RACETRACK - C-PILLAR - UPPER - LH - REMOVE AND REPLACE ).
2. Inspect the inside of the LH and RH rear quarter inner panels underneath the rear quarter glass area (Figure 1):
   NOTE: Use a flashlight to assist you with the inspection of the rear quarter inner panels.
   • If a split in the sheet metal is found on one or both rear quarter inner panel panels (Figure 2), continue to the next step.
   • If no split in the sheet metal is found on either rear quarter inner panels, reinstall the LH and RH upper C-pillar trims, and discontinue this procedure. Use correction code S012310001 to close out this bulletin in SCA.
3. Use a spring-loaded center punch to create a guide hole at each end of the sheet metal split on the quarter panel inner panel.
4. Use a drill with a 5 mm drill bit from the drill bit set (1126494-00-A) to enlarge each relief hole (Figure 3).
   CAUTION: Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) such as eye goggles and ear protection before drilling.
5. Repeat steps  3 and  4 if a sheet metal split is found on the other rear quarter inner panel.
6. Vacuum the metal shavings with a shop vacuum cleaner after drilling.
7. Cut a butyl patch large enough to cover the entire modified area, and then apply the butyl patch onto the modified portion of the rear quarter inner panel. Repeat this step if the other side was also modified.
8. Install the LH and RH upper C-pillar trims (refer to BRACKET - RACETRACK - C-PILLAR - UPPER - LH - REMOVE AND REPLACE ). Use correction code S022310001, S032310001, or S042310001 as appropriate to close out this bulletin in SCA.
