Foam - Backrest - Driver Seat - Remove and Replace: Install

  1. Position the driver seat seat back trim onto the driver seat.
  2. Install the driver side airbag into the airbag chute, and then insert the airbag chute with the airbag inside through the slot in the seat back foam.
    CAUTION: Make sure that the driver side airbag mounting studs extend out of the holes of the chute.
    CAUTION: Handle the airbag with extreme care when installing it into the airbag chute. The airbag is configured/folded in a specific manner and will need to be replaced if it is dropped, altered or manipulated in any way.
    NOTE: Refer to the following video for proper care when installing the driver side airbag into the airbag pouch, and when installing the pouch through the seat foam.

  3. Install the clips (x2) that attach the driver seat seat back trim to the seat back foam.

  4. Install the strap that attaches the driver seat seat back trim to the seat back foam.

  5. Install the driver seat seat back and foam assembly onto the seat back frame.
    NOTE: Start by sliding the foam trim straight onto the seat back frame. Ensure the posts for the headrests engage the seat back foam. Ensure the heater harness and lower trim that engages the frame are pushed through to the back side of the frame.

  6. Fasten the clips (x7) that attach the backrest foam to the seat back frame.
    NOTE: Fasten the clips at the top and work down.

  7. Install the seat heater connectors to the seat underside, and then fasten the clips that attach the connectors to the seat underside.

  8. Connect the electrical harness to the seat heater connectors.

  9. Install the electrical harness to the seat frame, and then fasten the clips that attach the electrical harness to the seat frame.

  10. Connect the electrical harness to the lumbar pump connector.

  11. Connect the electrical harness to the ECU connector.

  12. Connect the electrical harness to the recliner motor connector.

  13. Install the side airbag to the seat frame, and then install new nuts to attach the airbag to the frame.

    5.4 N.m (4.0 ft-lbs) +/- 0.9 N.m 

    CAUTION: Use only hand tools to torque the nuts. Do not use impact tools.

  14. Install the bolt that attaches the bottom of the lumbar support to the seat assembly.

    5 N.m (3.7 ft-lbs) 

    NOTE: The bolt is located below the lumbar ECU.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 10 mm socket

  15. Connect the electrical harness to the side airbag connector.

  16. Fasten the clips that attach the outboard side of the seat back cover to the seat back frame.

  17. Hook the upper flaps that cover the LH and RH lower corners of the seat back frame.
  18. Hook the lower flaps that cover the LH and RH lower corners of the seat back frame.
  19. Install the seat back shell to the seat. See SHELL - SEAT BACK - DRIVER (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  20. Install the inboard side shield to the seat, and then fasten the clips that attach the shield to the seat.

  21. Install the driver seat outboard side shield. See SIDE SHIELD - OUTBOARD - DRIVER SEAT (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  22. Install the driver headrest trim. See TRIM - HEADREST - DRIVER (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  23. Install the driver seat. See SEAT ASSEMBLY - 1ST ROW (LH) - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
  24. If servicing the front passenger seat in a North American vehicle:
    1. Remove all objects from the front passenger seat before beginning calibration.
    2. On the vehicle touchscreen, touch Controls (Vehicle Icon) > Software and check the vehicle firmware version. If the vehicle firmware is 2023.2.11 or newer, perform a software reinstall. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen . If the vehicle firmware is not 2023.2.11 or newer, update the vehicle firmware. See Software Update
    3. Locally connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 - Connect and Disconnect .
    4. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See GATEWAY (UNLOCK) .
    5. In Toolbox, click on the Actions tab, and then search for "OCS".
    6. Run the PROC_OCS1P_SELF-CALIBRATION routine.
    7. Click on the Actions tab, and then search for "Seat calibration".
    8. Run the PROC_VCRIGHT_SEAT-TEST-CALIBRATE routine.
    9. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
