Cover - Back Rest - Driver's Seat - Remove and Replace: Remove & Replace

  1. Open the LH front and LH rear doors

  2. Open hood
    NOTE: Release using MCU, Controls > Doors > Front Trunk

  3. Move LH front seat forward

  4. Remove LH front seat rear fasteners
    NOTE: 2x patch bolts, T45P, 34 N.m, Discard after removal, Use Torchless heat induction tool to help remove bolts if necessary

  5. Move LH front seat backward

  6. Remove LH front seat front fasteners
    NOTE: 2x patch bolts, T45P, 34 N.m, Discard after removal, Use Torchless heat induction tool to help remove bolts if necessary

  7. Adjust the position of the LH seat for easy removal
    NOTE: Middle of track, most upright position, seat fully up off the floor

  8. Power down vehicle using MCU
    NOTE: Controls > E-brake & Power Off > Power off

  9. Remove underhood aprons
    NOTE: 4x aprons

    NOTE: 2x connectors

  11. Remove underhood storage unit
    NOTE: 10x bolts, 10 mm, 4 N.m, 10x bolts, 10 mm, 7 N.m

  12. Remove HEPA filter
    NOTE: Lift up from bottom and pull out

  13. Disconnect 12V negative terminal and First Responder Loop
    NOTE: 1x nut, 10 mm, 5 N.m, 1x connector, Wait at least 2 minutes before disconnecting modules or HV components

  14. Disconnect LH front seat harness
    NOTE: 1x connector

  15. Remove LH front seat from vehicle
    NOTE: Recommend assistance

  16. Use a pick to disengage the outboard headrest retaining spring
    NOTE: 1x retaining spring, Depress the material around the headrest post to expose the release clip

  18. Remove the headrest from seat
    NOTE: Remove by pulling straight up out of seat back

  19. Release toe kick straps from both sides of interior seat base
    NOTE: 2x hook clips

  20. Remove the seat back shell base assembly from seat back frame
    NOTE: 6x clips, Start at the top of the seat and pull the shell away from the frame, When the side clips are free, pull the bottom and carefully roll the bottom tabs out of the slots, If pulled straight out, the clips on the seat back can break off

  21. Remove the lower flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame
    NOTE: Pull the trim straight up, off of the retaining tabs to release

  22. Remove the upper flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame
    NOTE: Pull the lower section of trim away from the retaining tab to release, then pull the trim straight up off of the upper retaining tab

  23. Remove the lower flap covering the inboard corner of the seat back frame
    NOTE: Pull the trim straight up, off of the retaining tabs to release

  24. Remove the upper flap covering the inboard corner of the seat back frame
    NOTE: Pull the lower section of trim away from the retaining tab to release, then pull the trim straight up off of the upper retaining tab

  25. Remove clips securing the seat upholstery to the seat back frame
    NOTE: 7x clips, To release, rotate the clips off of the frame from the inside out, Seventh clip is located tucked beneath top center upholstery clip

  26. Pull the seat upholstery away from the air bag to gain access to the air bag electrical connector

  27. Disconnect LH front seat air bag
    NOTE: 1x connector, Pull black collar down to release connector

  28. Remove nuts securing 1st row side air bag to seat back frame
    NOTE: 2x nyloc nuts, 10 mm, 5.4 N.m, Discard after removal

  29. Pull the airbag and fasteners away from the seat frame

  30. Place the front seat in a position to gain access to the bottom of the seat
    NOTE: Protect seat cushion from damage

  31. Remove zip tie securing harnesses to spring mat

  32. Disconnect the seat heater connector
    NOTE: 1x connector, 1x clip, Remove connector from spring mat clip

  33. Remove the seat back harness connector from the seat bottom
    NOTE: 1x connector, 1x fir tree clip

  34. Return seat to upright position

  35. Remove the upholstery trim
    NOTE: Start by pulling the bottom of the seat trim away from the seat frame, ensure the heater harness and the trim is clear of the frame, Lift straight up on the sides of the trim, moving the trim from side to side, to free it from the frame

  36. Remove the side air bag from seat back assembly
    NOTE: Pull the seat back cover away from foam assembly to access the air bag, Slide the air bag out of the envelope, Ensure the studs are clear of the envelope before removing, If the air bag is pulled straight out with the studs in the holes, the envelope will be damaged

  37. Pull air bag envelope through side of seat back cushion
    NOTE: Ensure not to damage cushion when pulling air bag envelope through side of seat back cushion

  38. Remove upholstery from seat back cushion
    NOTE: Upholstery held on to cushion by velcro, Gently pull upholstery inch by inch from seat back starting lower seat back working your way up to upper seat back, Velcro can tear off cushion

  39. Install upholstery to the seat back rest cushion
    NOTE: Start at the upper seat back working your down to lower seat back, Massage Velcro in as you go

  40. Pull air bag envelope through side of seat back cushion
    NOTE: Ensure not to damage cushion when pulling air bag envelope through side of seat back cushion

  41. Install the side air bag to seat back assembly
    NOTE: Re-position the seat back cover with foam assembly

  42. Install seat back cushion to seat back frame
    NOTE: Start by sliding the foam trim straight onto the seat back frame, Ensure the posts for the headrests engage the seat back foam, Ensure the heater harness and lower trim that engages the frame are pushed through to the back side of the frame, Ensure that both sides of the seat back cushion overlap the seat back frame

  43. Install the airbag studs into the seatback frame
    NOTE: The studs should line up with the two round holes, the elongated hole is not used for this part

  44. Install nuts securing 1st row side airbag to seat back frame
    NOTE: 2x nuts, 10 mm, 5.4 N.m, Install new nyloc nuts

  46. Install seat back upholstery clips retaining trim to the frame

    NOTE: 6x clips, Install the lower clips first and rotate the shell up into place, Light pressure may need to be applied to the shell to ensure it's fully seated, The headrest posts will engage the seat back when installed

  56. Rotate the seat to gain access to the underside of the seat

  57. Route LH sensor harnesses underneath toe kick strap

  58. Zip-tie both LH seat back heater and sensor harnesses onto spring mat

  59. Secure the toe kick straps to both sides of the interior seat base

  60. Rotate the seat back to the upright position

  61. Install the headrest into seat
    NOTE: 2x locking clips, Ensure the headrest is fully seated, An audible click will be heard when installing the headrest, Ensure the headrest is seated by tugging up on the headrest
