Check for HV at the Drive Inverter (Large RDU Only)

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See RAISE VEHICLE - 2 POST LIFT .
  2. Remove the mid aero shield panel. See PANEL - AERO SHIELD - MID (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
WARNING: Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating of class 0 (1000V) must be worn while performing the remainder of this procedure.
WARNING: Ensure that the multimeter and leads are capable of handling at least 500V.
  3. Disconnect the low voltage harness, then release the bolt and remove the orange drive inverter cover (torque 3 N.m).

  4. Remove both O-rings from the drive inverter cover and discard.
  5. Empty all pockets and remove all metal items from your body.
  6. Inspect the HV insulating gloves for damage.
WARNING: Refer to TECH NOTE: HIGH VOLTAGE AWARENESS CARE POINTS to learn more about working with High Voltage components.
  7. Put on the HV insulating gloves, and then put on the leather over gloves.
  8. Using the drive inverter case as a chassis ground, measure the following voltages:
    • B+ to ground
    • B- to ground
    • B+ to B-
WARNING: If any voltage reading is more than 10V, the High Voltage (HV) contactors are not fully opened. Due to the risk of electrocution, contact Service Engineering before performing any further work.
  9. Return to the procedure that required the isolation check.
  10. When repairs are complete, replace components that were removed for access.
NOTE: Install new O-rings on the drive inverter cover; apply silicone lubricant.
NOTE: Install the rear-facing part of the cover first to prevent pinching the O-rings.
