Glass - Backlight (Non-Heat Pump) - Remove and Replace: Remove

  1. Open all the doors and lower all the windows.
    NOTE: If the vehicle is being powered down, latch the rear doors to prevent accidental closure.
  2. Move the LH and RH front seats fully forward.
  3. Remove the LH 2nd row seat side bolster. See BOLSTER - SIDE - SEAT - 2ND ROW - LH (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  4. Remove the LH side rail trim. See TRIM - SIDE RAIL - LH (REMOVE AND INSTALL) .
  5. Remove the LH upper C-pillar trim. See TRIM - C-PILLAR - UPPER - LH (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  6. Release the clip and tabs (x4) that attach the LH rear C-pillar trim to the body, and then set the trim aside.
    NOTE: Pull the rear of the trim forward, and then upward to remove it.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Plastic trim tool

  7. Disconnect the backlight electrical connector from the FM antenna amplifier.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in

  8. Disconnect the backlight glass heater ground strap from the LH C-pillar.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in

  9. Remove the RH 2nd row seat side bolster. See BOLSTER - SIDE - SEAT - 2ND ROW - LH (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  10. Remove the RH side rail trim. See TRIM - SIDE RAIL - LH (REMOVE AND INSTALL) .
  11. Remove the RH upper C-pillar trim. See TRIM - C-PILLAR - UPPER - LH (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  12. Release the clip and tabs (x4) that attach the RH rear C-pillar trim to the body, and then set the trim aside.
    NOTE: Pull the rear of the trim forward, and then upward to remove it.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Plastic trim tool

  13. Disconnect the backlight harness electrical connector from the tuner.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Plastic trim tool

  14. Disconnect the antenna connector from the tuner.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Small flat head screwdriver

  15. Release the clip that attaches the antenna harness to the body.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Clip pry tool

  16. Disconnect the antenna harness from the tuner and body harness.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Small flat head screwdriver

  17. Remove the package tray trim. See TRIM - PACKAGE TRAY (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  18. Remove the RH side antenna harness from the backlight glass.
    NOTE: Peel the tape back found at each end of harness housing seal.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Plastic trim tool

  19. Disconnect the RH harness electrical connector from the heater grid.
    CAUTION: Gently disconnect the harness. Do not damage the heater grid.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in

  20. Remove the LH side antenna harness from the backlight glass.
    NOTE: Peel the tape back found at each end of harness housing seal.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Plastic trim tool

  21. Disconnect the LH harness electrical connector from the heater grid.
    CAUTION: Gently disconnect the harness. Do not damage the heater grid.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in

  22. Use the exterior switch to open the trunk.
  23. Remove the rear seal from the backlight glass.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Plastic trim tool
    • Needle nose pliers

  24. Remove the front seal from the backlight glass.
    • Plastic trim tool
    • Needle nose pliers
  25. Prepare the WRD Spider 3 glass removal kit.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • WRD Spider 3 - 1571168-00-A
  26. Secure the wire to the starter tool, and then insert the starter tool from the inside of the vehicle through the adhesive bead at the bottom area of the backlight glass.
    CAUTION: Use the guard to prevent damage to the rear deck panel while using the starter tool.

  27. Release the line from the starter tool and wrap the line around the exterior of the backlight glass assembly.
    NOTE: Pull the line away from the starter tool. Make sure enough length is pulled through.
    NOTE: Verify the line sits underneath the glass and seal.

  28. Attach the anchor point to the interior of the backlight glass assembly, and then secure the line to the anchor.

  29. Secure the interior side of the line to the Spider cutting tool.
    NOTE: Follow the instructions on the Spider tool. Feed the line through the opening of the cutting tool and tie a knot to secure the line in place. If the spindle is not turned the proper direction, the cutting tool will be damaged.

  30. Secure the Spider cutting tool to the interior side of the backlight glass assembly.
    NOTE: Note the orientation of the cutting line. Make sure the line wraps over the large pulley and holds a 90 degree angle.

  31. Secure the angle driver to the electric drill.

  32. Turn the spindle on the cutting tool with the drill to start removing the backlight glass assembly.
    CAUTION: Use the plastic guard to protect the headliner and package tray assembly during removal.
    NOTE: Move the cutting tool as needed, keeping the line close to a 90 degree angle.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Dash protector

  33. Secure suction cups (x2) to the backlight glass at each side.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Double suction cup handle - 1080599-00-A

  34. With an assistant, remove the backlight glass from the vehicle.
    NOTE: Lift up on glass from interior of vehicle to ease removal. Lower the trunk right before latching.

  35. Use a scraper to carefully remove the old urethane from the vehicle.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Razor blade scraper - 1064740-00-A
    • Winged scraper set - 1080601-00-A

  36. Use IPA wipes to clean the urethane path on the vehicle. Allow 1 minute dry time.
