Glass - Backlight (Non-Heat Pump) - Remove and Replace: Install

  1. If necessary, remove and install a new power strut. See POWER STRUT - TRUNK - REMOVE AND REPLACE .
    NOTE: This is only applied for vehicles before 2022/08/25 in China, or vehicles before 2022/08/12 in APAC and Europe.
  2. Secure suction cups (x2) to the backlight glass at each side.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Double suction cup handle - 1080599-00-A

  3. Attach suction cups to the LH and RH sides of the new backlight glass.
  4. With an assistant, position the backlight glass onto the vehicle for a dry fit and note any locations where the net pads need to be adjusted.
  5. Check the gap and flush of the backlight glass to the body before fully seating the backlight glass

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Glass gap and flush tool - 1588903-00-A

  6. If necessary, perform net pad adjustment.
    1. Cut teflon tape into rectangles having dimensions 5 mm x 20 mm.
    2. With an assistant, remove the backlight glass and set it on a stand.

      Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

      • Portable bench - 1054720-00-A

    3. Apply the teflon tape rectangles to the net pads where adjustment is needed.
      NOTE: Make sure that the edges of the tape rectangles align with the edges of the net pads.
    4. With an assistant, position the backlight glass onto the vehicle and check the net pads fitment.
    5. Repeat step  a through step  d to adjust the net pads.
      NOTE: Adjust side net pads (x6), upper net pads (x3), and rear net pads (x3) onto the backlight glass as necessary.

  7. With an assistant, remove the backlight glass and set it on a stand.
  8. Clean the urethane path on the vehicle with an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe. Allow the surface to dry before continuing to the next step.
  9. Apply urethane primer to the vehicle along the old urethane path and in areas that were damaged during removal of the backlight glass.
    NOTE: Allow the primer to dry for at least 2 minutes before continuing.
  10. Apply urethane primer to the backlight glass along the old urethane path.
    NOTE: Allow the primer to dry for at least 2 minutes before continuing.
  11. Apply urethane to the body following the original path.
    NOTE: Make sure that the urethane bead has a triangular cross-section of approximate width 8 mm and height 13 mm.
  12. Prepare the caulking gun and urethane.
    NOTE: The opening must be 8mm wide and 13mm tall.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Caulk and adhesive gun - 1080593-00-A
    • Portable bench - 1054720-00-A
    • Retractable blade knife

  13. Apply urethane to the body following the original path.
    NOTE: Make sure that the urethane bead has a triangular cross-section of approximate width 8 mm and height 13 mm.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Caulk and adhesive gun - 1080593-00-A

  14. Open the trunk.
  15. With an assistant, install the backlight glass to the vehicle.
  16. Check the gap and flush of the backlight glass to the body before fully seating the backlight glass.
  17. Close the trunk.
  18. Remove the suction cups from the backlight glass.
  19. Connect the antenna harness to the tuner and body harness.

  20. Install the clip that attaches the antenna harness to the body.

  21. Connect the antenna connector to the tuner.

  22. Connect the RH harness electrical connector to the heater grid.

  23. Install the RH side antenna harness on the backlight glass.
    NOTE: Apply a small piece of tape at each end of the seal clip.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Harness tape
    • Scissors

  24. Connect the backlight harness electrical connector to the tuner.

  25. Connect the backlight glass heater ground strap to the LH C-pillar.

  26. Connect the LH harness electrical connector to the heater grid.

  27. Install the LH side antenna harness on the backlight glass.
    NOTE: Apply a small piece of tape at each end of the seal clip.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Harness tape
    • Scissors

  28. Connect the backlight electrical connector to the FM antenna amplifier.

  29. Install the package tray trim. See TRIM - PACKAGE TRAY (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  30. Install the clip and tabs (x4) that attach the LH rear C-pillar trim to the body.
    NOTE: Slide the back tabs into package tray, and then push the front tabs toward the rear.

  31. Install the LH upper C-pillar trim. See TRIM - C-PILLAR - UPPER - LH (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  32. Install the LH side rail trim. See TRIM - SIDE RAIL - LH (REMOVE AND INSTALL) .
  33. Install the LH 2nd row seat side bolster. See BOLSTER - SIDE - SEAT - 2ND ROW - LH (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  34. Raise the LH 2nd row seat.
  35. Repeat step 30  through step 34  for the RH side of the vehicle.
  36. Move the LH and RH front seats to the original positions.
  37. If the vehicle has alerts pertaining to the rear defroster, perform these additional steps to re-enable the rear defroster.
    1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See TOOLBOX 3 - CONNECT AND DISCONNECT .
    2. In Toolbox, click the Actions  tab, type "Defrost" into the search field, click on PROC_VCRIGHT_DEFROST-RE-ENABLE, click Run  , and allow the routine to complete.
    3. Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See TOOLBOX 3 - CONNECT AND DISCONNECT .
  38. Raise all the windows and close all the doors.
  39. Remove the masking tape after the urethane has cured.
    CAUTION: Do not drive the vehicle until the adhesive manufacturer's recommended minimum drive-away time has passed. Dow Betaseal Express has a drive-away time of 1 hour minimum in temperatures of 0°F (-18°C) or warmer. If necessary, leave the tape applying pressure to the glass on the vehicle and advise the customer that they can remove it after 24 hours. Additionally, advise the customer that they should avoid high driving speeds and speed bumps for the next 24 hours.
